Luxury Meets Sustainability: Saxon Spa at Steyn City

Luxury Meets Sustainability: Saxon Spa at Steyn City

There’s something magical about Steyn City. The feeling you get when you’re surrounded by wide open spaces, endless greenery, and the soft sound of water trickling through streams and waterfalls. It’s a lifestyle estate, yes, but it feels more like a sanctuary. So, it’s no surprise that nestled right in the heart of this green belt paradise, overlooking landscaped gardens and tranquil walkways, is a place that redefines what luxury wellness can be: the brand-new Saxon Spa.

A journey that starts the moment you step through the doors.

From the moment I walked in, I felt held. Not just by the warmth of the staff, but by the space itself. The entire spa is intentionally designed to mirror nature. Curved, flowing walls that make you feel like you’re at one with nature and a palette of soft greens and earthy whites that grounds you instantly. There’s a calm here that can’t be staged.

The attention to detail truly took my breath away. Every material chosen with meaning. The bespoke mosaic tiles lining the vitality pool? Locally crafted. The glowing chandeliers? Made from recycled glass. Each one designed by the talented Stephen Pikus using upcycled materials, adding a quiet sparkle without costing the planet. Even the curves in the architecture soften your experience. There are no harsh lines here, only fluidity, light, and intentional rest. This serene space spans over 1,400 square meters and two floors, but it never feels clinical or overwhelming. Crystals scattered throughout add to the warmth and it feels personal, thoughtful, alive.

My spa journey started with the Hot Stone Aromatherapy massage that quite literally unknotted my week. The session begins with some mindful meditation breathing as you relax into your treatment. Then came the flotation chamber, weightless and completely restorative, they say 15 minutes in this salt water is equivalent to 4 hours sleep. While you are there you must try the vibracoustic wellness lounge (yes, that’s a real thing, where vibration and sound therapy soothe you from the inside out). You can take a look at my video here.

And then came water: the heated pool, steam room, sauna, and finally, the rooftop cold plunge pool with a view to make that icy dip a little easier. Trust me, it’s the exhale you didn’t know you needed.

There’s also a fresh juice bar, relaxation rooms, a mindfulness deck, and quiet zones to just be. Which is what I did. For four hours. Without once checking my notifications. When you’re in a place that’s been created with this much intention, sustainability, and soul, the noise outside kind of just fades.

If you’re craving a reset, not just for your body, but for your spirit – this is your place.
Book the treatment. Take the day. And whatever you do, leave your phone in the locker.

A Sweet Escape: Discovering Wedgewood Nougat’s Rosebank Emporium

A Sweet Escape: Discovering Wedgewood Nougat’s Rosebank Emporium

Stepping into Wedgewood Nougat’s newly opened Rosebank Emporium is like entering a confectionery dream. As the sixth addition to their family of stores, this emporium exemplifies Wedgewood’s dedication to artisanal craftsmanship, sustainability, and community heritage.

From the moment you walk in, the gentle aroma of honey and roasted nuts welcomes you—a prelude to the delights that await. The store’s design is a visual feast: a 180-degree hand-painted floral ceiling, bespoke lighting, and elegant bee insignias pay homage to the brand’s roots and commitment to nature.

Sampling their offerings is an experience in itself. The honey nougat ice cream, often hailed as the world’s creamiest, melts effortlessly, leaving a lingering sweetness that’s hard to forget. Their range of products, from the classic nougat biscuits to the innovative Macalettes—double-enrobed Belgian chocolate macadamia nuts—showcases the brand’s evolution while staying true to its origins.

What sets Wedgewood apart is its heart. Founded by Gilly Walters in 1999, the brand has always prioritized community and sustainability. Their initiatives, like sourcing honey from local beekeepers and employing artisans with disabilities for handmade packaging, reflect a deep-seated commitment to making a positive impact.

The Rosebank Emporium isn’t just a store; it’s a celebration of Wedgewood’s journey—a space where luxury meets legacy, and every detail tells a story.

Unlocking the Magic: A First Look at Disney’s The Magic Box

A Night of Disney Magic: The Magic Box Premiere in South Africa

We recently had the absolute privilege of being invited to the opening night of Disney’s The Magic Box at the Teatro in Montecasino, and let me tell you – it was pure enchantment! As a lifelong Disney fan (and mom who belts out “Let It Go” way too often), I couldn’t wait to see how this all-South African cast and crew would bring Disney magic to life. Spoiler alert: they nailed it!

The show is a dazzling celebration of Disney’s century-long legacy, filled with puppetry, breathtaking projections, stunning costumes, and an orchestra of over 75 iconic Disney songs woven into a magical journey. From A Whole New World to We Don’t Talk About Bruno (yes, we DO talk about Bruno now, and he is my favourite), every note is a nostalgic trip through the Disney stories we’ve all grown up loving.

A Journey Through Disney’s World

The story follows Mara, played by the incredible Ashley Scott, who’s whisked away into the magic of Disney through a glowing, mysterious box. Each scene unfolds like a dream: from Walt Disney’s Animation Studio to The Island, The Sea, and even The Underworld, every setting is more magical than the last. The mix of high-tech projections, shadow puppetry, and hand-painted scenery felt like a heartfelt tribute to the artistry of classic Disney animation.

I was especially mesmerized by the Encanto and Aladdin medleys – hearing We Don’t Talk About Bruno live had the entire audience buzzing, the mash up of A Whole New World and Can you Feel the Love Tonight was absolutely exceptional. It’s a show that feels like a warm Disney hug for your soul!

South African Talent Takes the Spotlight

What made the evening even more special was knowing that every performer, every note, and every intricate piece of stagecraft came from local talent. It’s not every day you get to see an all-South African cast shine on such an epic international platform. With a 26-member cast, standout performances from Cindy-Ann Abrahams and Mthokozisi Emkay Khanyile, and an ensemble led by dance captain Nicolette Fernandes, the talent on stage was nothing short of world-class.

Pure Disney Escapism

Now, full disclosure: this isn’t a traditional Disney musical with one storyline. It’s more like a magical tapestry of moments and music, weaving together the best of Disney into a spectacular sensory experience. The transitions between scenes are seamless, but at 90 minutes without an interval, I wouldn’t recommend it for children under 3.

The attention to detail, from the growing Magic Box to the larger-than-life puppets, kept me and my little ones wide-eyed the entire time. And seeing iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Goofy brought to life in such a creative way? Goosebumps!

Why You Can’t Miss It

If you’ve ever laughed, cried, or sung along to a Disney song (so, everyone?), The Magic Box is an experience you’ll treasure. Whether you’re introducing your little ones to Disney magic or reliving your own childhood favorites, this show is a celebration of joy, imagination, and wonder.

???? Pro Tip: Tickets are selling faster than Elsa’s ice powers, so don’t wait! Sign up on the waiting list at DisneyTheMagicBox.com to get exclusive pre-sale access or head to showtime.co.za to grab yours.

Trust me, you won’t want to miss this magical journey, while you are there, check out Monte Casino’s magical Christmas light display – it’s the perfect night out for the whole family!

Design A Friend Doll Review And Giveaway

Design A Friend Doll Review And Giveaway

Still wondering what gifts to get for the festive season? Well look no further for the perfect gift for little fashionistas 🙂

The girls were recently sent a “Design a Friend” Doll and they are besotted, to say the least. She goes everywhere with them.

I never thought I would have “girly girls”, being a boy mom for so long, I hardly even know how to plait hair, let alone have daughters that love dolls, tea parties and all things pink. Funny how life works because my daughters ask to wear pretty dresses everyday, and their toys of choice? Any doll or baby.

We got “Candy” – she’s a gamer, just like my daughters brothers 🙂 As her name suggests she’s as sweet as can be but when it comes to gaming she’s as competitive as they come.  Each “Design a Friend” doll has their own special character, with a unique outfit and special charm bracelet.

Candy Girl measures 46cm tall, I love that she is so big, the girls “walk” with her and it really does make her feel like a “best friend”.

Candy wears the cutest pink ‘Gamer At Heart’ sweatshirt, a skater skirt, trainers with satin laces & super cute unicorn gamer headphones, can we make these in real life child sizes please?

She has blue eyes that close when lying down & super silky pink hair for styling in the latest trends. A super soft, huggable body for lots of cuddles, but can also raise her arms and legs in life like positions. Design A Friend dolls celebrate childhood, encourages imaginative play and inspires children to be themselves.

Designed for the love of fashion, every Design-a-Friend doll comes dressed in on-trend, fashion quality outfits so you can dress her, style her, change her outfits as you do every day. A little girl’s dream.

Flash Giveaway – Win tickets to the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 premiere

Flash Giveaway – Win tickets to the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 premiere

Lockdown 2020 saw my boys being introduced to the world of Sonic (and gaming). They are obsessed, they LOVE the movie, they LOVE the game and they LOVE the character. We were sadly disappointed at the lack of Sonic merchandise available in South Africa and even considered shipping some in from the UK for birthdays last year. Retailers, could we get some more Sonic toys please?

The good news in our favourite little blue hedgehog is back for a next-level adventure in SONIC THEHEDGEHOG 2. After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when the villainous Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles (my son Yusuf always chooses to play this character), in search of an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.

Eucerin’s Ato-Control Range; The Perfect Solution For Soft, Healthy Skin

Eucerin’s Ato-Control Range; The Perfect Solution For Soft, Healthy Skin

All of my children have suffered with eczema concerns as babies, some more severe than others but it’s always a conversation I end up having at our 6 week check-up.  The one brand my clinic sister has always recommended is Eucerin, yes, even for babies!

The Ato Control range is designed to care and protect dry, irritated skin. We were sent some to review and I’ve been quite surprised by the results.

Our personal favourite is the Eucerin Ato Control Bath & Shower Oil, it’s formulated with Omega-3 and Omega-6 Oils and replenishes the skins barrier to prevent drying. If I’m using it myself, I apply it directly onto damp skin. If I’m using it for the kids, I add a little into their bath water. Its fragrance and preservative free and my daughter loves adding her “special oil” into the bath. If you suffer from Atopic Dermatitis or eczema flare ups this will work wonders. They are tremendously hydrating and provide instant relief for dry, itchy skin.

The Eucerin Ato Control Lotion is suitable for newborns and babies, it provides instant moisture and strengthens the skins barrier, its quite a thick formula but surprisingly absorbs really quickly. It’s made up of more than 60% natural oils and it’s fragrance and paraben free (as are all the Ato Control range.)

Last but not least is the Acute care cream (and this has been a winner for my husband) – Ask any psoriasis or eczema sufferer what keeps them up at night. Itching! The acute care cream soothes and calms redness and irritation and provides welcome relief to get a good, restful nights sleep.

I love the fact that there is one brand we can use across the whole family (especially when it comes to packing for road trips). Eucerin Ato Control is suitable for newborns right the way through to mum and dad (and Granny and Grandpa too)! Available through Clicks and Dischem pharmacies nationwide.

**Body Wash is suitable from newborn and the Acute Care Cream and lotion is suitable from 4 weeks.**

**This article was written in collaboration with Eucerin, all thoughts and opinions are my own.**
